The Gnomes of Knot-Hole Manor

Beyond the field of poppy flowers in the middle of a walnut grove stands an ancient redwood tree. At the base of the tree is the door to Knot-Hole Manor, and the home of Duvakor and his family of gnomes.

Silent by day, active by night, the Gnomes of Knot-Hole Manor have lived deep in the roots of the ancient tree for generations. Papa Duvakor was born in this very tree two-hundred-seventy-five years ago. This is young for a gnome. They live to be about four-hundred years old!
Silenciosa durante el día, activa por la noche, los gnomos de Manor Nudo-Agujero han vivido en las raíces mas profundas de este antiguo arbol por generaciones. Papa Duvakor nació en este mismo árbol doscientos setenta y cinco años atrás. Esto es joven para un gnomo. Ellos viven alrededor de cuatrocientos años de edad!
Duvakor and his family begin their day whenever they wake up. Gnomes don't use clocks. Time, as humans know it, means nothing to them. A gnome's day begins as the sun is going down and ends just before daylight.
Duvakor y su familia comienzan su dia en cuanto se despiertan. Los Gnomos no usan reloj. La mnaera en la que los seres humanos miden el tiempo, no significa nada para ellos. El día de un gnomo comienza cuando el sol esta apunto de esconderse y termina poco antes del amanecer.
Today is different. Minnibur is awakened by the sound of an animal in distress. She listens carefully and gently wakes her husband. Duvakor sits up in bed and looks toward the knothole in their bedroom wall.
Hoy es diferente. Minnibur es despertado por el sonido de un animal en peligro. Ella escucha atentamente y despierta cuidadosamente a su esposo. Duvakor se sienta en la cama y mira atravez de un agujero en la pared de su recamara.
"Minnibur, I must get the boys up," Duvakor says to his wife. "There is an injured squirrel in the forest." He gets out of bed, quickly puts on his clothes and rushes to wake Zooknock and Zookwinkle. As the boys scurry around getting dressed Duvakor straps on his belt with the tool kit attached and checks to be sure he has all the tools he might need.
Duvakor le dice a su esposa, “Minibur debo despertar a los niños” “Una ardilla se encuentra herida en el bosque.” Se levanta apresuradamente de cama, se viste para despertar a Zooknock y Zookwinkle.
