Bilingual Luganda-English Dance of the Caterpillars

Translated by Moses Bulamu

In the fall, when the moon is just right….
Mubiseera ebyo nga omwezi gwaka
The deep throated croak of the toads goes
Wakikere owe do boozi edene,nakooka
“boom – boom - boom.”
“kiree-kiree-kiree”

A sound, like that of a fiddle, drifts through the air…
e ddoboozi ,nga elye’ ndele, nga litambilila mubwengula
when the crickets rub their wings together.
E jjanzzi,bwezi kuuta ebiwaawaatiro amawu

Then the frogs begin to sing, ever so sweetly.

Enchanted by the music and led by fairies ….
Nga binyumilwa eggonjebwa lye nyimba ela nga bikulembelwa emisambwa

The caterpillars gather in the garden, among the flowers and gnomes.
